Competitions, conference visits, organization
- Visit the CLiPS website for upcoming colloqui organized by CLiPSa.
- From January 2012 on, I work as a project leader in Text Mining for the University Hospital Antwerp (Universitair Ziekenhuis Antwerpen (UZA)), as a member of the biomina research center. I remain connected to CLiPS and the University of Antwerp as an associate researcher.
- December 12, 2011. A review of my PhD dissertation, written by Shlomo Argamon (Illinois Institute of Technology) was published in Literary and Linguistic Computing. You can read it here.
- December 1-2, 2011. I will present recent work at the 15th ATILA Research Meeting, Antwerp, Belgium.
- November 29, 2011. I will attend Taal in Bedrijf in Rotterdam.
- November - December, 2011. I teach the 'Semantics and Discourse' part of a MA/AMA course in Computational Linguistics, both at University of Antwerp (UA) and at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB).

- September 19-22, 2011. Participation in CLEF 2011 and in the co-located PAN Lab, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
- September 7, 2011. Participant in the Flemish STEVIN roadmap workshop on the future of language and speech technology.
- June-August, 2011. We participated in the 2011 Medical NLP Challenge, where we submitted results in (fine-grained) emotion detection from suicide notes (with Frederik Vaassen, Walter Daelemans and Claudia Peersman).
- July, 2011. Our intrinsic plagiarism detection system scored 2nd in the PAN competition! The authorship identification system scored a 7th position (out of 18 competitors)
- June, 2011. We participated in the PAN competition, for intrinsic plagiarism detection as well as authorship identification.
- May 26-27, 2011. Participation in FLaReNet Forum 2011, Venice, Italy.
- May 20, 2011. Keynote speaker at BeneLearn 2011 (20th Annual Belgian Dutch Conference on Machine Learning), The Hague, The Netherlands.
- March-June, 2011. Participation in competition on Plagiarism Detection and Authorship Identification in the framework of the PAN 2011 Lab (Uncovering Plagiarism, Authorship, and Social Software Misuse) (with Walter Daelemans and Mike Kestemont).
- March, 2011. Supervision of students' practicum in Digital Humanities course at the University of Antwerp.
- March, 2011. I teach part of the new Digital Humanities course (3rd year BA) at the University of Antwerp.
